On Friday, Judge Sarah Hopkins sentenced the woman to a maximum of three years behind bars with a non-parole period of 18 months for the "unplanned" and "isolated" assault.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Hopkins took into account medical opinion that the woman suffered borderline personality disorder and other mental disorders, with symptoms likely acute at the time of offending.

The judge also considered the offender's prior abusive relationships and her history of drug and alcohol abuse, which started at 13 with binge drinking.

Other factors at play were the unplanned nature of the attack, the woman's lack of prior criminal record, her good character and prospects of rehabilitation.

Judge Hopkins found the offending fell just below the mid range.

The court heard on the day of the attack, the woman was intoxicated after drinking in the afternoon, before going into the boy's bedroom at midnight, where he was watching videos.

After taking off her clothes, the woman carried out a number of sexual acts on the teenager, before stopping at the victim's request.

Following the assault, the boy felt "dissociated" and a few days afterwards the woman asked the boy to "just keep this quiet for a bit".

Months later, the victim told his mother what happened and "completely burst into tears", the court was told.

On a phone call with the victim set up by police, the offender said she had "started getting attracted" to him and was "blacking out all the time" when the attack happened.

With time served, the woman will be eligible for parole on February 26, 2025.
