Australia's Aspen Anderson has claimed gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games, storming to victory in the women’s individual super sprint triathlon.
Racing in warm conditions at the picturesque Buccoo Beach in Tobago, Anderson finished 24 seconds clear of the field, with Scotland's Jessica Heaps taking silver.
The triathletes completed a 375m swim, 10km cycle and finished with a 2.5km run.
"It was such a great race, it was so fun, and I’ve never raced anything like that before,” Anderson said.
"It was in a great place too; the whole atmosphere was amazing and to be part of Team Australia is like nothing else.
"We came from the Australian winter to this weather today and it was a bit of a shock to the system, but I think I pulled it off today."
Fellow Queenslander Hannah Pollock finished seventh.
In the men’s event, Tasmania's Jack Latham powered through the run leg of the race to claim the bronze medal with a time of 30 minutes 38 seconds.
After trailing following the swim and bike legs, Latham dug deep to push forward through the field.
"It’s been the best experience ever racing here for the Commonwealth and for my country for the second time," Latham said.
"I’ve enjoyed the whole experience here, the weather, the culture, the atmosphere around here has been brilliant."
Oscar Wootton narrowly missed the medals, with the Victorian finishing in fifth.
The Australian triathlete squad will next contest the mixed relay.
In the pool, Inez Miller started a likely gold rush with the West Australian winning the women's 200m freestyle.
"The swim tonight probably wasn’t as strong as my effort this morning, nerves played a part, but with more races to come I will learn from that and hopefully start in the coming days a bit more confident," Miller said.
Miller was joined on the podium by Mikayla Bird, who backed up her women’s 50m freestyle bronze with another in the 200m.
Another Queenslander Zoe Ammundsen collected silver in the women’s 100m backstroke, behind Scot Holly McGill, while Victorian Harvey Larke surprised with a bronze from lane eight in the men’s 200m final.
Tommy Lane, also of Victoria, rounded out the swim medals with a hard-fought bronze the men’s 1500m final.
Meanwhile, the rugby sevens competition kicked off with the Australian women's team defeating hosts Trinidad and Tobago 71-0 before downing Canada 33-0.
