Julia Gillard, Hugh Jackman and the Duchess of York are among high-profile supporters of a global initiative meeting in the fight against extreme poverty.
The Global Citizen NOW action summit will take place on March 4-6 in Melbourne, with a focus on engaging young leaders to drive innovation on food insecurity, the climate crisis, gender inequity and health systems.
The event's co-chairs include former UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon and Timor Leste prime minister Xanana Gusmao and is presented by the Victorian government.
“There is no better place than Melbourne to bring together change-makers who are driven to deliver fairness and equality for everyone,” Victorian treasurer Tim Pallas said.
"We look forward to hosting a dynamic Global Citizen NOW: Melbourne event that will make a real difference to our world."
Global Citizen was founded in Australia in 2008 and has deployed $43.6 billion in commitments in the past 10 years, the group said.
The event will feature also Crowded House, Hugh Jackman, former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard and Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson.
"Since becoming a grandmother I’ve become acutely aware of my responsibility, and that of my generation, to do everything we can to improve the state of the world we are leaving for our grandchildren,” Duchess Ferguson said in a statement.
