Sydney FC will be on the hunt for a new striker after prolific forward Adam Le Fondre opted against re-signing with the club.

The 36-year-old had been in negotiations with the club over extending his A-League Men stint with the Sky Blues but the parties could not reach an agreement.

Le Fondre’s latest campaign was hampered by a hamstring injury but he still managed a return of 12 goals in 21 games to be the club's top scorer in the 2022-23 season.

The Englishman sits second behind Alex Brosque (83 goals in 267 games) on the club’s all-time scoring list with 73 goals in 128 matches.

Le Fondre is expected to look for opportunities back in the UK and leaves Australia with two ALM championships and a premiership to his name.

“I would have loved to have stayed and gone on to break Brosquey’s goal-scoring record at Sydney FC however I understand the club wants to make a change,” Le Fondre said.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played here and to have been so successful and I look forward to a new challenge in my career.”
