Port resemble West Coast's premiership winners: Lycett

The last time Scott Lycett's AFL club won 10 games in a row, they also won the premiership.

And the ruckman says the resemblance between his current Port Adelaide outfit and former club West Coast in their premiership year of 2018 run deep.

The Power are on a club-record 10-game winning streak entering Thursday night's Adelaide Oval fixture against Geelong.

The Eagles won 10 in a row from round two in 2018, the season they captured the flag.

"There are definitely some similarities," Lycett told reporters on Tuesday.

"We're definitely building nicely at the moment and building belief - it's the belief, the spirit of the group.

"I think we won 11 (sic, 10) in a row at West Coast at the time.

"(The) young guys coming through, we've had a lot of young guys this year go to the next level - they were already at an amazing level and they’ve gone even higher.

"... That was pretty similar to what we had at West Coast when I was there."

Lycett led the rucks in West Coast's season of triumph and, after a hiccup this year, has returned to that status at Port.

The 30-year-old had shoulder surgery in 2022 and this season was axed after round five, prompting some speculation that his best was behind him.

Lycett ignored the doubters during his four-game absence from the AFL.

"I’m pretty stubborn ... I always knew that if I got myself right and have another crack at it, I would be OK," he said.

"I just had that confidence that I wouldn’t be (in the state league) for long.

"The last 12 months has been pretty up and down in terms of on-field, off-field, injuries, a lot of things going on.

"So to have some consistency with my body, I feel like I’m playing the footy I was playing before I got injured last year.

"I just needed some confidence in my body and mind, so it's all good now."
