Port produce third-term muscle to trounce Gold Coast

Port Adelaide have pulverised Gold Coast with a nine-goal third-quarter flex in a 33-point victory which extends their club-record winning streak to 13 games.

The Power, with Connor Rozee a standout with 28 disposals and two goals, won 16.10 (106) to 11.7 (73) at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

Port, after trailing by six points at halftime, scored nine majors in a 32-minute purple patch to celebrate the milestones of Charlie Dixon (200 games) and Jeremy Finalyson (100).

Finlayson goaled just 90 seconds in, but the Suns then made the early running.

With Levi Casboult booting two goals, Gold Coast led 4.1 to 2.2 at quarter-time as the Power lost key defender Trent McKenzie (ankle).

The Suns stretched their lead to 17 points early in the second quarter but Port hit the front after three consecutive goals, only for Nick Holman to snap his second major and give the visitors a 6.3 to 5.3 halftime advantage.

The second-placed Power then produced their game-defining burst, ensuring they remain equal on premiership points with ladder leaders Collingwood, and two wins clear of third spot.

"We were lucky enough that we had a strong third quarter," Power coach Ken Hinkley said.

"But the game other than that was three quarters of really tough footy by both teams."

Port's spree was highlighted by two stunners - Sam Powell-Pepper launched an accurate torpedo punt from 70m and Rozee dribbled an audacious attempt from a boundary line.

The Power amassed 9.2 to 1.1 to create an unassailable 43-point break at three quarter-time.

"We got beaten significantly early in that third ... it was disappointing because for the large part of the game I thought we attacked them really well," Suns coach Stuart Dew said.

Port's Finlayson finished with 3.4 while Junior Rioli, Rozee and Todd Marshall scored two goals.

The eye-catching Rozee also recorded seven inside 50s, Aliir Aliir (seven marks) was influential in defence while Ollie Wines (26 disposals) and Dan Houston (22, one goal) were busy.

Gold Coast's Casboult slotted four majors but fellow key forward Ben King was substituted in the third quarter with just one kick.

Gold Coast's Noah Anderson (29 touches), Matt Rowell (21, seven clearances) and Sam Flanders (24 disposals) fought gamely and Jarrod Witts (44 hitouts) ruled the rucks.

Witts' co-captain Touk Miller gathered 20 possessions in his first AFL outing since suffering a knee injury in round six.
