A man has been charged with proceeds of crime offences and a hit-and-run killing in Sydney's southwest after police investigating the death attended his home, seizing his car and close to $1 million in cash.

The 55-year-old man will face Fairfield Local Court on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to an intersection in Mount Pritchard early on Wednesday after reports of a man in the street with serious injuries.

Paramedics attended the scene but the man was declared dead.

He has since been identified as a 31-year-old from Auburn, about 15km away.

Police established a crime scene amid suspicion the man had been a victim of a hit-and-run.

Officers began door-knocking houses on the street and appealed to drivers who might have been in the area at the time.

Following inquiries, police seized a Lexus sedan at a house not far from where the body was found with plans to take the car away for forensic examination.

Police also allegedly found almost $950,000 in cash.

The 55-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.

His licence has also been suspended.

Inspector Benjamin McIntyre earlier called on anyone with information to contact investigators.

"We'd be calling for any people who were travelling on Pritchard Street at Mount Pritchard between 2am and 3am to make contact with police, especially if you have dashcam footage," he said.

"We'll spend the rest of the morning canvassing the surrounding streets looking for CCTV footage."
